THE PRUNO STORY:
FROM BEHIND BARS TO YOURS
Among the five-star offerings of the correctional dining scene is the infamous Pruno. Basically prison's take on craft cocktails, if you consider a cocktail made from sugar drink powder, candy, and apples to be "craft."
Pruno is a masterpiece cobbled together from whatever sugary delight an inmate can scrounge up - candy, fruit, flavored drink powders. You name it, it's in there.
The magic happens in a plastic bag tucked away in a very glamorous location like under a bed, in a sink, or, for those truly living the dream, in a hot pot.
Pro tip: You gotta "burp" that bag regularly to avoid an explosion of pruno-scented air freshener that'll not only redecorate your cell but also send a red flag to the CO's that you've got a side hustle brewing.
When all's said and done, if you've got the patience, you’ll be rewarded with a sweet, non-carbonated concoction that boasts an alcohol content
somewhere between "meh" and "might forget my cellmate’s name"
Once we took it out of the cell and into the real world, we made sure to refine the process and stabilize production. Pruno now stands as a legal, non-carbonated beverage.
Gritty, bold, and tough as hell — just like the people who inspired it.
We are not just selling a drink. We’re selling a story. A piece of prison ingenuity that reflects the resilience, creativity, and raw energy of the incarcerated culture.
